LAN -- Acronym for Local Area Network, a network of computers usually located in an office, building or organization.
launch -- To start up an application.
leased line -- A telephone line that is rented for exclusive around-the-clock use.
library -- An online area where files may be downloaded from or uploaded to.
line noise -- Extraneous noise on telephone lines that causes clicking or static sounds.
link rot -- An expression for broken links (nonworking URLs).
list guide -- See guide.
listserv -- Currently the most common type of "maillist" on the Internet; originated on BITNET. See BITNET, e-mail, and maillist.
live objects -- A clickable element in an HTML document that responds to a user's mouse clicks by producing animation, sound, or other "live" effects within a Web browser window.
link location bar -- A text-entry window that contains the URL of the site currently onscreen, or a site, file, or object to be accessed next.
login -- Account name assigned in a computer system to allow access by a particular person; the act of accessing a computer system.
lurk -- To read a message board or sit in a chat room and contribute nothing.
