Psalterium Harps

As the early colonists and later immigrants came to the new world, they brought with them stringed instruments of all kinds. They often tried to make homemade versions of these instruments to keep alive the tradition of making household music. We have researched and developed several of these instruments and made them easy to play, in the household music tradition, by using the early 20th century musical notation system of "follow the dot" song sheets so anyone can make music.

We selected three 5- and 6-string instruments because the fewer the strings, the easier it is to play! Simply tune the instruments, slide the song sheet under the strings and pluck the string where the note is indicated. It couldn't be any easier! There are also additional song packets available for each instrument. For those who read music, there are corresponding music books available.
