In the early days of the American Colonies, girls and their mothers crafted dolls of ordinary household materials such as spools, whittled clothes-pegs, yarn, buttons, wooden spoons and cornhusks. Later, calico fabrics and handkerchiefs became widely available and were used for doll-crafting. There's a tremendous variety in the family of early American dolls. All are a part of the tradition of doll-making and doll-collecting that continues to evolve in America. |
