Hello, I'm Míc
Miller, the author of this guidebook for those who want to find
glory as a webmaster or webmistress. I unwittingly became an
award-winning webmaster when I submitted my Web site, The Beeline,
to some search engines in late January, 1997. About a week later,
I received an e-mail from Frank Addante, the webmaster at Starting
Point, telling me:
"Congratulations!
http://bton.com has been voted by Starting Point users to be
a 'Hot Site.' Your site is scheduled to be featured on 02/9/97
as a Starting Point reference 'Hot Site.' After you submitted
your site to us, our visitors viewed your site and voted for
you in our New Section. The votes have been tallied and you are
now a Starting Point 'Hot site'! So again, congratulations!"
When The Beeline's day came, it felt
like a high holiday and I experienced the magical feeling of
having my Web site singled out by others as being "hot."
It is a day in my life I clearly remember. I "pinched myself"
over and over by repeatedly clicking on the Starting Point Hot
Site Award graphic linked to The Beeline and spending the rest
of the day surfing other Hot Sites.

This is how my interest in Web awards began.
What followed was an award-seeking adventure that ended with
The Beeline receiving the Superb! Website 500 Award, the Superb!
Website Double Diamond Award, and being inducted into the Hall
of Elite -- the three most difficult forms of recognition one
can achieve as a webmaster. Along the way, The Beeline has been
presented hundreds of Web awards, including over 60 World's Top
Awards, numerous site of the year awards, and the webmaster of
the year award from Surfer's Choice Internet Awards.
